As of today, the first edition of "Pocket Activist" has been published to the Google Play Store. It can be found under the category of educational applications. It has also received a rating of E for everyone, and is available in the United States exclusively. Now, any android user can access the app and my project more generally. As time goes on, I will expand the utility of the app and release new editions. For now, I will see how my app does on the market.
For my major resources: Rules for Radicals, Tools for Grassroots Activists, Crystallizing Public Opinion, and Propaganda, I have completed extensive notes available to the public. They are posted under the resources section of this webpage, as well as are incorporated into my mobile phone application.
My application "Pocket Activist" consists of three major components: connection to representatives, connection to grassroots organizations, and advice for aspiring activists.
Now, posted under the resources section are four interviews.
The first and third are with a family friend: Julia Duncan. Julia worked in the White House under the Obama administration. She also has worked in the State Department. The second interview was with Bill Rhodes, the CEO of Autozone. Mr Rhodes met with President Trump; leading a committee of CEOs to advise the president on a potential tariff. The fourth and final interview was with Mana Rostami-Mouripour, a human rights coordinator for the organization Human Rights Watch. She has worked closely with Elizabeth Calvin, the leader of the child judicial advocates branch of the organization. The remainder of my project will be spent working on my mobile phone application I have decided to call "Pocket Activist". The app is an attempt to consolidate the most important aspects of activism: finding a cause, contacting public officials, and learning the ropes of grassroots activism.
To further my political cause I have created the group called "The Bay Area Student Council". The groups is composed of high school students from local schools around the Bay Area. The group's goals include, furthering causes such as the climate movement, as well as inform the public and local congressional members on issues through media outreach. In addition, I have read Saul D. Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals". The book gives insight into starting a grassroots movement and how to organize groups of like-minded people.
